WEST MELBOURNE, Florida – A woman has been charged with two counts of animal neglect after dogs and cat feces were found in her apartment, according to West Melbourne Police.
Officers arrived at her apartment Wednesday to find four cats and two dogs without proper food and water, according to arrest reports.
Mariah Toledo, 20, was staying in the Kingly Court residence and “neglected or refused to provide proper care” for the animals, according to police.
“The two dogs looked like skeletons with open sores on their legs and one could easily see their rib cage bones,” police told Palm Bay Daily.
Officers said the cats were seen drinking dirty water from pots left in the sink. Feces were found on the floor. The dogs’ nails were overgrown from not having been trimmed.
Police said the animals “suffered unnecessarily” due to inadequate care.
Toledo is being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex on $35,000 bond.
She six felony animal cruelty charges and six misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.
