MELBOURNE, Florida – A 47-year-old woman was arrested at the Orlando Melbourne International Airport after authorities found a .380 caliber handgun in her purse.

Paula Haaff Yencho placed her purse on the X-ray machine at a checkpoint in the airport. The TSA supervisor saw the weapon on his screen and immediately contacted the Melbourne Airport Police Department.

“I made contact with Yencho and before I could advise her of her rights, she began uttering statements such as ‘she thought that she took her gun out of her bags while she was at home,'” the officer said.

Police said Yencho was very emotional and said that she was sorry and didn’t mean to bring her firearm to the airport in Melbourne.

Yencho was advised that carrying a weapon through a TSA checkpoint is a felony without a concealed to carry permit.

The gun found was a .380 caliber Taurus ACP.

Yencho was arrested at the Melbourne airport and transported to the Brevard County Jail where she was charged with committing Violation Carry Concealed Weapon Specific Locations.
