Melbourne Police Still Investigating Downtown Area Gunshots

MELBOURNE, Florida – Police are still investigating a gun battle that took place Sunday morning in the downtown area.

Melbourne police say as many as 20 gunshots were fired on the corner of Depot Ave. and New Haven Ave. No one was injured during the shooting.

The gunshots were fired from a vehicle, but the victims weren’t able to give a good description of the suspect, police said. Gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and the victims.

Investigators found several shell casings and two victims, who couldn’t provide specific details about what happened. The victims had been in their vehicle driving through a downtown parking lot when the suspects opened fire.

The victims returned gunfire and don’t know why they were targeted. The victims’ vehicle was damaged by the gunfire.

Police are still trying to locate surveillance video of the shooting from store cameras and near the parking lot.

Melbourne police released two 911 calls, one from an Uber driver, the other from a visitor to the Melbourne downtown area.
