MELBOURNE, Florida – A 59-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly abused a woman who is wheelchair-bound in Melbourne.
The Melbourne Police Department responded to a disturbance at the 2000 block of Lipscomb Street Tuesday night.
Toney Curtis Ishom told officers that he and his girlfriend of 7 years were in an argument, but no one touched one another. Ishom stated they were arguing about “small stuff.”
“During this time [the victim] was yelling at Ishom ‘stop lying, you know you pulled me off the couch,'” the officer said.
Police then spoke with the victim, who is wheelchair-bound due to a medical diagnosis. She stated that while they were both sitting on the couch, Ishom kept messing with her by telling her “come on.”
The victim refused to move off the couch for Ishom, so he grabbed her by the left arm and pulled her off the couch against her will.
“She stated Ishom normally gets very aggressive with her when he is high on drugs or is intoxicated,” police said.
The victim had marks and bruising on her arm that was consistent with her story. Photographs were taken and submitted into evidence.
Police believe Ishom did intentionally touch the victim against her will and committed abuse on a disabled adult based on the fact the victim is wheelchair-bound.
Ishom was arrested and transported to the Brevard County Jail.
This is the second time this week that a person has caused injury to a disabled adult in Melbourne.
On Monday, a mental health employee was arrested after he punched a disabled patient in the face. The incident took place at the Circles of Care facility.
