MELBOURNE, Florida – A woman called law enforcement after someone snatched her purse at the 7-Eleven store located at 1700 South Babcock Street, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

The robbery happened on Thursday at approximately 6:00 a.m. when the victim was near the soda fountain. She felt a pull on her purse, which caused her to fall to the ground. The man then ran out of the store with her purse and fled on a bicycle.

The store clerk told police that the suspect dragged the victim on the floor until she let go of the purse. Other customers attempted to stop the man, but he was able to escape on his bicycle. Officers received a copy of the video surveillance showing the incident.

Melbourne police found a man matching the description at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. He was taken into custody, and the victim identified him.

“Yes, he ripped the purse from my arm and ran with it,” she told officers.

Tony Antione Williams, 37, was arrested and transported to the Brevard County Jail where he was charged with Robbery Sudden Snatch.

According to jail records, Williams was also arrested on June 23, 2017, for Carjacking, Kidnapping Adult for Ransom, and Fleeing & Eluding a Police Officer.
