MELBOURNE, Florida – A 29-year-old man who was arrested after crashing his vehicle and leaving the scene told police he only broke down.
Jama Rashad Williams of Melbourne collided head-on with a pole Thursday at the intersection of Aldrin Street and Fountain Street.
The estimated cost of the pole is approximately $5,000.
Williams was observed by a witness leaving the scene of the accident on foot prior to police arrival.
While being booked at the Melbourne Police Department, Williams told police he was mad at them.
“The suspect stated that he didn’t crash into the pole but rather that the vehicle ‘simply broke down’ and he had to leave it next to the pole,” the officer said.
Williams was transported to the Brevard County Jail where he was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash w/Property Damage.
