MELBOURNE, Florida – Officers arrested a man after his son said he was shot at by his father, according to the Melbourne Police Department.
On Sunday, police responded to a call about a gunshot at a residence in Melbourne.
The son told officers that he was in an argument with his father, identified as 45-year-old Brian Fannon, when his father pulled out a handgun and fired it near his head, according to the report.
“[The son] said he heard the bullet ‘whistle past his head,'” the officer said.
The son stated he went to his room and armed himself with a shotgun, locked the door, and called the police.
Police then spoke with Fannon, who said he locked himself in his room to avoid his son, but then fell asleep. He admitted that the two were in an argument.
Fannon said that while he was asleep, he heard a “pop” sound that woke him up. He blamed his son for the gunshot and said he didn’t have any other firearms in the home.
A short time later during an interview with detectives, Fannon admitted that there were two other handguns in the home.
A witness who was in the home at the time of the shooting said he heard Fannon arguing with his son and then a gunshot, the affidavit said.
Fannon was charged with Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon and transported to the Brevard County Jail where his bind is set at $75,000.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Fannon is still being held at the county jail.
