MELBOURNE, Florida – A 39-year-old man was arrested earlier today on charges of Battery at the Hilton Beachside in Melbourne, according to police.
Melbourne Police officers made contact with the victim who said her friend of 10 years struck her in the face after drinking heavily in their hotel room.
The victim said the suspect, identified as Eric Marshall Rayburn, laid in bed and got on top of her. She asked Rayburn to leave her alone and pushed him off, according to the report.
“This enranged Rayburn who came at [the victim] in an aggressive manner,” the officer said.
As the victim was trying to get away from Rayburn, he struck her in the face with a closed fist, sending her to the floor. Rayburn “continued striking her with the closed fist on the right side of her face,” the report said.
The victim eventually escaped and fled from the room. Hilton Beachside security was outside of the door as she exited, and they took her down to the lobby where the police were called.
An officer tried to make initial contact with Rayburn, who was sitting in his hotel room.
“You can kick the fu**ing door down bro, cause I ain’t opening it,” Rayburn told the officer.
“I continued to ask Rayburn to open the door for a period of 10 minutes while hotel security attempted to find a way to open the secondary bar lock on the door,” the officer said.
Eventually, security opened the door, and Rayburn resisted as the officer tried to detain him.
“We were just playing around, I didn’t hit her that hard,” Rayburn told the officer.
Rayburn was arrested and transported to the Brevard County Jail where he was charged with Battery, and Resisting Arrest.
