MELBOURNE, Florida – A Melbourne couple was charged with Child Abuse after officials at a Brevard County school contacted the Department of Children and Families (DCF) regarding injuries they found on one of their students.
Dean M. Sealey, 41, and Jasmine Shalanda Nesmith, 19, were arrested in Melbourne on charges of Child Abuse.
A detective was called out to the school in reference to a child abuse investigation by DCF.
The child told a detective and an officer that he gets beat with a belt by Sealey and Nesmith on numerous occasions throughout the year, according to the report.
“The beatings left several raised injuries to the skin of the child victim. There were lesions, scabs, and scars about his body,” the detective said.
After observing the injuries on the child, and reviewing digital photographs, police arrested Sealey and Nesmith on charges of Child Abuse.
“Photographs were collected of the numerous marks consisting of new large bruises and sars that had healed over,” the officer said.
Sealey made admissions to using a flip-flop and a belt to discipline one of his children.
