INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH, Florida – A 66-year-old woman was found passed out in her car while after ordering a sandwich at the Burger King drive-thru at 1938 Highway A1A in Indian Harbour Beach, according to police.
Indian Harbour Beach police were called Monday at approximately 7:10 p.m. about an intoxicated driver passed out in her vehicle.
Martha Ligun Savage was sitting in the front driver’s seat of her vehicle which was parked at the drive-thru window. The vehicle was in park and the engine was turned off, but the key was still in the ignition.
Officers woke Savage and asked if she needed any medical attention, but she only stated that she was waiting on a chicken sandwich.
“I could smell an odor of an alcoholic substance on her breath and asked her to step out of the vehicle,” the officer said.
Instead, Savage started the vehicle and put the transmission in drive to pull away from the officer. However, the officer was able to turn the ignition off.
Savage then reached down to retrieve something from her purse. In doing so, the officer grabbed her purse and was punched twice by Savage during the process.
Another officer arrived and asked Savage to exit the vehicle, but she declined and said she wanted her chicken sandwich.
