The Bearded Chef of Palm Bay Wins Blended Burger Project

PALM BAY, Florida – The Bearded Chef of Palm Bay is the winner of the James Beard Foundation’s 4th Annual Blended Burger Project.

James Beard Foundation’s 2018 Blended Burger Project is a national competition that challenges chefs to make a more delicious, nutritious and sustainable burger by blending finely chopped mushrooms into the patty.

Restaurants nationwide participated in the summer-long initiative, and 250,000 customers voted for their favorite burgers through July 31, 2018.

Celebrity judges Andrew Zimmern, Susan Westmoreland, Antoinette Bruno, selected five winning burgers out of the 20 burgers which received the most votes by customers.

The Bearded Chef’s Thai My-Shroom burger, created by chef Brandon Basista of the Bearded Chef Food Truck and Catering, was declared the winner.

This mouth-watering burger consisted of Florida-grown Monterey mushrooms blended with beef and pork, spiked with ginger, lemongrass, cilantro, and birds eye chili, with spicy Thai ketchup, pickled enoki mayo with mushroom cured egg yolks and smoked maitake bacon on a toasted mushroom dusted brioche.
