WEST MELBOURNE, Florida – A 15-year-old teenager has been arrested and charged with making a threat against Central Middle School in West Melbourne.
On Wednesday morning, the School Resource Officer at Central Middle School received information from concerned students who saw a threat on social media.
The threat referenced shooting up Central Middle School with a gun.
The teen, who is not being named by Palm Bay Daily because of his age, is a former student at Central Middle School.
The teen was located and detained at the South Area Alternative Learning Center in Melbourne. After detectives investigated, he was arrested and charged with the second-degree felony crime of making a false report concerning the use of a firearm.
“This is a prime example of the message we’re trying to get out to the public. These kids did exactly what we wanted them to, if you see something, say something,” Lt. Richard Cordeau, spokesperson for the West Melbourne Police Department.
The former Central Middle School student qualifies for secure detention and will be incarcerated at the Juvenile Detention Center.
