Palm Bay Woman Pawns Friend’s Laptop to Buy Cigarettes

PALM BAY, Florida – A woman was arrested on multiple charges Wednesday after pawning a friend’s laptop so she could buy a bus pass for public transportation and cigarettes, according to the Palm Bay Police Department.

Elizabeth Cordero, 33, borrowed the Hewlett Packard Pavillion laptop so that she could look for a job. The laptop was valued at $400.

Soon after, Cordero informed the friend via text messages that the laptop was pawned in Palm Bay to buy the bus pass and cigarettes.

“The text messages showed the defendant apologizing for pawning the laptop,” the officer said.

Video footage of the Cordero shows her pawning the laptop at Cash America Pawn. The pawn ticket also contained Cordero’s right thumbprint and signature.

Cordero was arrested and charged with:

  • Felony Dealing in Stolen Property
  • Felony False Verification Ownership to Pawnbroker
  • Felony Grand Theft Other Larceny
  • Intro Contraband Into Jail Facility
  • Marijuana – Possession
  • Violation of Probation On Site

Cordero was already on probation for grand theft. Due to this, she was charged with violation of probation. She was transported to the Brevard County Jail where bond was set at $11,500.
