PALM BAY, Florida – A Palm Bay woman was arrested on charges of DUI and Child Abuse after she was found drunk and passed out in her vehicle on Malabar Road.
Shannon Morgan Maynard was first observed by a Palm Bay city worker while her vehicle was sitting in the middle of the road.
The worker woke Maynard and realized she had an infant child in the back seat. Maynard woke up and quickly drove off again.
The city worker notified police where officers found the vehicle sitting in the middle of another intersection on Malabar Road after Maynard passed out a second time.
“Upon arrival, I observed an occupied Black Ford Explorer parked in the middle of the roadway. I then made contact with the driver,” the officer said.
Police said they observed a strong odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from Maynard’s breath. She had slurred speech and lost track of thought several times, according to the report.
When police asked for her driver’s license, they discovered an open container in the center console of the vehicle.
After conducting field sobriety tests, officers determined Maynard was too impaired to drive.
Maynard was arrested in Palm Bay for DUI and transported to the Brevard County Jail.
Since Maynard placed her five-month-old daughter in the vehicle knowing she had consumed alcohol, she was also charged with child abuse.
