PALM BAY, Florida – A 40-year-old woman was arrested after she was found passed out with two children in the car inside the Bayside Lakes Plaza parking lot in Palm Bay.
Dawn Elizabeth Collins Ware, of Palm Bay, was seen slumped over in the vehicle by a passerby with two small children.
Officers arrived at the location and found Collins Ware passed out in the driver’s seat. The keys were in her purse.
“Upon my arrival, I did not smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the defendant. The defendant stated she had some sort of neck and or spinal issues that she takes medication for,” the officer said.
Collins Ware told police she takes a medication called Topamax for seizures but hasn’t had one in over two years. She also told officers that she takes the following medications daily: Xanax, Oxycodone, Topamax, and Imitrex.
“The dependent said she had driven to the parking lot and had stopped to get her and her children lunch in the Subway restaurant,” police said.
After performing standardized field sobriety exercises, police felt Collins Ware was impaired and unable to operate a vehicle safely.
Collins Ware was arrested for DUI and transported to a booking area in Brevard County where she provided urine and blood samples.
The defendant was also arrested for DUI in Melbourne in July 2017.
