PALM BAY, Florida – On Tuesday, a sixth grader at the Columbia Elementary School in Palm Bay stole a credit card from a teacher and used it on Google for services, according to the Palm Bay Police Department.

Assistance Principal Mary Myers and Donna Jansen, a teacher, told officers that the student was being punished for misbehaving and sent to another class for detention.

Jansen said her Discover Card and ID went missing, which were in a pocket attached to her cell phone case. The cell phone case was sitting on a table next to the student.

Later in the evening, Jansen noticed that her ID and credit card were missing. She immediately thought the boy had taken it. She went online and found seven transactions on her credit card totaling $75.00 for Google Services.

Jansen then said her ID showed up on her desk the next school day. She questioned the boy about the credit card charges, all which he denied.

Palm Bay police then spoke with the student and asked if he had a cell phone, which he denied. He said it was taken away from him because he was being punished.

However, Assistant Principal Myers conducted a school search of his backpack that contained an LG Android cell phone.

The boy’s parents looked up the student’s Google account and found matching charges on his account from the teacher’s credit card. The student was then suspended from school.

In the end, the boy admitted to taking the card and using it on Google to make purchases.

The elementary student was arrested for Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card.
