PALM BAY, Florida – Police say a man stole four guitars belonging to a friend that he found deceased, according to the report.
Deputies with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office arrested William Lee Baker of Malabar on charges of Burglary, Dealing in Stolen Property, and Grand Theft.
All charges are felonies.
Baker wanted to sell four guitars for $200, which were valued at approximately $2,000.
On Thursday, July 5th, Baker then made arrangements to meet the buyer in the parking lot of the Palm Bay Hospital, located at 1425 Malabar Road.
Unknowing to Baker, the buyers were detectives from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. He was immediately detained following the transaction, the affidavit said.
Baker told detectives that on June 30th he entered a friend’s home located at the 500 block of Willow Drive in Malabar where he found Johnathan Hedges deceased.
While in the home, he stole two Celebration Ovation guitars, a Fender guitar, and a Stratocaster guitar.
“The defendant acknowledged that he was aware that he had no permission to take control of the guitars and that he was stealing them,” BCSO detectives said.
Baker was transported to the Brevard County Jail. Bond set at $12,000.
