PALM BAY – On Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at approximately 4:30 a.m. there was a tragic accident involving a semi-truck and a Nissan Altima on U.S. 192.

“The tractor-trailer was eastbound on U.S. 192 when it was rear-ended by an eastbound Nissan Altima with two occupants,” Spokeswoman for the Florida Highway Patrol, Lt. Kim Montes told Palm Bay Daily.

Manuel Garcia, 22, was driving his 2006 Nissan Altima eastbound on U.S. 192 and failed to slow down as he approached the semi truck. The Palm Bay man was declared deceased at the scene.

Austin Flinchum, 23, also from Palm Bay, was a passenger in Garcia’s Altima. He is currently in critical condition at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.

The semi-truck driver, Johnny Schrier, 22, sustained only minor injuries. He was taken to a local hospital.

Authorities are still investigating this fatal crash and awaiting toxicology reports.
