PALM BAY, Florida – The Palm Bay Police Department received a call about a burglary Friday night at 1710 Bottlebrush Drive.

Officers arrived at the Palm Bay residence and made contact with the maintenance supervisor for the Palm Point Apartments. He told police that he observed a male, identified as 53-year-old Roland B. Ashe attempting to gain entry to the locked maintenance shed.

The supervisor said Ashe had been working at the apartment complex on a probationary basis doing lawn care and other work.

However, the maintenance supervisor said Ashe was fired earlier in the day and shouldn’t be trying to gain entry to the shed. Ashe did not have a key to the property.

“He observed Roland using a flat bar to pry open the lock, and force entry into the shed, which resulted in damage to the lock,” the officer said.

Ashe was then seen exiting the shed carrying tools that did not belong to him. He then placed the tools into a red pickup truck and left the area.

Items identified stolen are as follows:

  • Echo brand backpack blower $350
  • Chainsaw $150
  • Hedge trimmer $200

A witness told police that he looked out his window and saw Ashe attempting to gain entry to the shed. He said Ashe used a flat bar to beat the padlock off the door to the shed and was seen exiting with various tools, including a chainsaw and a hedge trimmer.

Ashe was later located in Palm Bay and arrested for burglary, grand theft, and criminal mischief. He was transported to the Brevard County Jail.
