PALM BAY, Florida – A man told Brevard County investigators that he was tortured, beaten, raped, and had bleach poured on his open wounds for 10 hours, police say.
Detectives say Derek Munnings is named as the leader in an alleged torture session that left the victim helpless, bruised and bleeding.
Munnings was charged with battery, sexual battery of a victim over 18 and kidnapping while inflicting bodily harm.
Tivy Colderwood faces similar charges.
Brynn Brito, Colderwood’s attorney, said his client is shocked by the allegations and denies any and all of them.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Munnings began the assault at a Palm Bay home after calling the victim a snitch.
For several hours, the victim was tortured by Munnings with the assistance of Colderwood, according to the arrest report.
The victim told detectives he felt himself lose and regain consciousness throughout the evening.
The men allegedly stomped on the victim’s face, raped him with an unknown object and poured bleach onto the open wounds on his face for 10 hours, according to the police affidavit.
Colderwood and Munnings allegedly put the victim in the trunk of a car belonging to another roommate, David Grey-Martin, and all three of them drove the victim to a remote location.
The victim cut his hands with aluminum cans as he struggled to cut his bonds while in the trunk, the report said.
When the car reached Vero Beach, the men intended to murder the victim, according to the affidavit.
However, a passing motorist scared the men and they fled the area, leaving the victim to be discovered in a ditch by a truck driver.
The victim was found helpless and with most of his clothing missing, the report said.
Brevard County investigators said the victim identified his alleged attackers from his hospital bed.
