Palm Bay Car Crash Claims the Life of a 17-Year-Old

PALM BAY, Florida – On Friday night, the Florida High Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash near Babcock Street and Willowbrook Street, in Palm Bay, that involved a fatality.

April Gielow, 44, crashed into a vehicle driven by John Byrd, 18, of Palm Bay. She was driving her 2004 Hyundai in the northbound lane on Babcock St. and she wandered into the oncoming southbound lane and crashed into Byrd in his 1990 Mazda according to reports.

Zachary O’Quinn, 17, a passenger in Byrd’s car, was rushed to Holmes Regional, where he passed away. Byrd was taken to Holmes Regional; he suffered minor injuries.

Everyone was wearing their seatbelts, according to FHP.

Investigators are awaiting the Vero Beach woman’s blood-alcohol test results to determine if alcohol played a factor in this fatal crash. This accident will remain under investigation; charges are pending.
