PALM BAY, Florida – The manager of the Palm Bay Family Dollar store called police after one of the employees stole 48 packs of cigarettes and other merchandise, according to the arrest affidavit.
Palm Bay police arrived at 2200 Port Malabar Blvd. where they met with the store manager, general manager, and the employee.
Colleen Murphy, 36, was arrested on a charge of retail theft after she admitting to stealing 48 packs of cigarettes, 4 lighters, an unknown amount of 16 oz sodas, a pair of slippers, 2 shirts, makeup kits, 2 packs of pens, 2 cans of coffee and sugar, ranch dressing, couple boxes of single creamers, 4 containers of coffee cups, a couple packages of slim jims, car freshener, candy gummy worms, chips, notebooks, plastic utensils, perfume kits, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, box of tampons, nail polish, and hair ties.
All the merchandise was stolen from September 2017 to January 2018.
Murphy, who worked as a Family Dollar cashier, told Palm Bay police that she and boyfriend are homeless with her two children. Murphy said she stole to provide for her kids.
She was arrested and transported to the Brevard County Jail for processing.
