MELBOURNE, Florida – A woman who tried to stab a Brevard County deputy with a loaded syringe was arrested on multiple charges near the Merritt Island Causeway.

Katherine Angeline Kazarian, 24, was charged with Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Officer, and Drug Paraphernalia.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Sunoco gas station located at 1760 East Merritt Island Causeway in reference to a suspicious vehicle.

A deputy made contact with Kazarian who was standing next to the vehicle.

The business wanted Kazarian trespassed, so the deputy requested her identification. He also conducted a pat down for weapons, at which time the deputy felt what he thought was a needle in her pocket.

“When asked if the object in her pocket was something that would poke, harm or cut me, Ms. Kazarian advised that it was not,” the deputy said.

The deputy removed a capped syringe from her pocket and placed it on the hood of her vehicle.

While trying to secure her in handcuffs for his safety, Kazarian grabbed the needle from the hood of the vehicle, removed the cap with her mouth, and attempted to stick the deputy with it, according to the report.

The deputy wrestled with Kazarian and attempted to knock the needled out of her hand. But while fighting with her, she intentionally scratched the deputy with the tip of the needle, resulting in a cut, the report said.

“After being cut with the needle, I was able to get it out of her hands, while she was still attempting to break free,” the deputy said in the report.

Kazarian was transported to the Brevard County Jail where bond was set at $6,000.00.
