WEST MELBOURNE, Florida – Two men were arrested on charges of Grand Theft after they used a wheelchair to steal several shoes at the Academy Sports at 4284 Norfolk Parkway in West Melbourne.

The store manager contacted police and described a dark-colored Toyota Tacoma truck with a wheelchair rack mounted on the back.

The Academy Sports staff told police there were two males in the vehicle as it left the parking lot in West Melbourne.

Officers identified a vehicle matching the exact description as it traveled near the intersection of Minton Road and Fell Road.

“Upon approaching the vehicle I saw multiple pairs of shoes that appeared new, clean, and tired together in plain view in the back seat behind the driver,” the officer said.

The driver was identified as Stephen Browne, 28, who uses a wheelchair to mobilize. The passenger was identified as Daniel Miller, 28.

The store manager from Academy arrived on scene and identified the subjects and the shoes taken from the store.

The value of the stolen items totaled $410.00.

Browne and Miller were arrested for grand theft shoplifting and transported to the Brevard County Jail.

According to jail records, Miller was arrested in West Melbourne in 2014 for being in possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, as well as drug possession and paraphernalia.

Browne has never been arrested in Brevard County.
