WEST MELBOURNE – On Sunday, January 20, 2019, around 1:00 a.m., a West Melbourne Police Officer responded to an apartment complex located in West Melbourne.
Upon arriving in the area a vehicle operated by Ankit Muljibhai Parmar, of Palm Bay, began to pull out of a parking spot almost crashing into a fully marked police vehicle. The vehicle had no lights on, and the defendant never attempted to stop.
Parmar, 33, proceeded through the apartment complex at a high rate of speed with no lights on running several stop signs. The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed and failed to yield for the fully marked Police K9 vehicle with his lights and sirens activated.
The vehicle continued to drive recklessly on U.S. 192 and was unable to maintain a single lane. The vehicle attempted to make a turn into a nearby shopping center and briefly lost control and jumped a curb, almost striking the building. The vehicle came to a stop, and the defendant finally complied and was detained.
While speaking with the defendant, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Parmar’s breath, which grew stronger as he spoke. Additionally, the LEO noticed the defendant had glassy eyes, and slightly bloodshot.
After performing a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, Parmar was arrested and charged with Fleeing & Eluding A Police Officer, and DUI 0.15 2nd Offense OR DUI W Pers 18 in Veh 2nd Offense.
His bond was set at $5,500.
