PALM BAY, Florida – On Sunday, around 5:45 p.m, the Palm Bay police department was called to a residence in the 2800 block of Kosuth Road to investigate a disturbance.
“The brother and sister were fighting over family property, we believe,” said Lt. Mike Bandish of the Palm Bay Police Department.
Kevin McCullough, 41, has been arrested and charged with attempting to murder his sister’s fiance.
The Palm Bay man allegedly pistol-whipped and then shot his future brother-in-law twice.
Larry Nelson, 58, of Palm Bay, stepped in when his fiance got into a fight with her brother at her home.
According to police, Nelson asked McCullough to leave the residence and McCullough attempted to punch Nelson. However, he missed and was taken to the ground.
After promising to stop fighting, Nelson allowed McCullough up off the ground. McCullough then pulled a 9mm handgun from his waistband, and shot Nelson in the foot, and the torso, and then pistol-whipped him, according to authorities.
Nelson sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.
McCullough is being held without bond at the Brevard County Jail Complex.
