PALM BAY – Joseph Silvestre Luna, 33, knowingly and willingly, permanently deprived the victim of 3 different firearms on two different dates.
The victim stated that in 2017 his Taurus semi-automatic .40 caliber firearm was stolen from his locked safe. He added that the defendant had access to his safe due to the fact of when it was purchased Luna helped him install it and set the combination.
The victim received text messages from Luna, a convicted felon, where he admitted to stealing all three firearms from him. Luna made specific mention of the .40 caliber firearm and one of the 9mm firearms. The victim estimated the total value of the three stolen firearms to be $1,300.
When Luna was interviewed by law enforcement, he admitted to stealing the firearms for drugs. According to the affidavit, the defendant gave the guns to a man in exchange for drugs. He stated, he no longer has contact with this person and is not able to get the guns back.
Luna, of Palm Bay, was arrested and charged with Grand Theft of a Firearm (3) and Possession of a Firearm by Violent Career Criminal (3).
His bond was set at $30,000.
