MELBOURNE, Florida – A 42-year-old man was arrested at the Circles of Care mental health facility after he intentionally inflicted physical injury upon a disabled patient, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

Yusuf Bland, who worked at Circles of Care as a mental health technician, was responsible for overseeing the Melbourne patient.

Police said the two got into an argument, and Bland punched the patient in the left eye.

“During the argument, Mr. Bland intentionally punched the patient causing physical injury to the victim’s left eye. [The victim] received a black left eye from the incident,” the officer said.

The entire incident was supported by video surveillance, and sworn statements provided by witnesses.

The victim was placed at Circles of Care due to his mental status. The staff told police that the victim lacks capacity and has been deemed incompetent, which is the reasoning behind the Circles of Care involuntary placement.

Bland was arrested and transported to the Brevard County Jail where he was charged with Abuse Elderly or Disabled Adult.
