MELBOURNE, Florida – Deputies were dispatched to a home where a golf cart was returned a couple of days after it was stolen, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim said his neighbor witnessed a man stealing his golf cart two days ago, but then the same man returned it with an apology letter, the report said.
In the apology letter was a phone number, but the golf cart was damaged, and that didn’t sit well with the victim, so he called authorities.
Deputies made contact with Jonathan Allen Wilcox, 38, who admitted to stealing the golf cart.
“He claimed to have done so because he was tired from walking and needed a means of transportation,” the deputy said.
“Additionally, he explicitly detailed the letter that he had written and left for the victim when he returned the golf cart,” the affidavit said.
Wilcox was arrested and charged with Grand Theft. Bond was set at $2,000.
