MERRITT ISLAND, Florida – When a man tried to attack a Publix shopper in the parking lot, he faced a stun gun and ran from the area, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened on Sunday evening at a Publix in Merritt Island at 125 East Merritt Island Causeway when the victim was being followed by a man he trespassed at his job, which is the Sunoco gas station.
When both individuals walked out of the store, Timothy Wayne Protus, 52, ran up to the victim and was angry at him about a separate incident when the police were called. Protus was then trespassed at the victim’s workplace. It was the same incident where Protus was throwing traffic cones at passing motorists.
Protus yelled at the victim in the Publix parking lot and took off running towards him.
“Mr. Protus struck the victim and attempted to hit him again, however, the victim was able to pull out a handheld Taser device and drive stun Mr. Protus,” the deputy said.
Protus took off running from the scene as the victim called law enforcement to report the incident.
Deputies observed the incident on video surveillance and ultimately arrested Protus on a Battery charge.
