MELBOURNE, Florida – A man who stole a $10 shirt and tried to use it as a return item for cash couldn’t believe he was being arrested for it, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

A Walmart Loss Prevention Officer observed a man, later identified as 30-year-old Justin Lowell Denison, stealing a $10 shirt and then trying to use it as a refund for cash at the service desk, the report said.

Denison, of Melbourne, was approached by a Loss Prevention Officer and asked the subject to walk back to his office, which he refused.

A Walmart store employee called 911 while the officer followed Denison as he exited the store and fled on foot.

Melbourne police found Denison a short time later, and he denied taking anything or obtaining money for returning the shirt.
