WEST MELBOURNE, Florida – A Palm Bay man was arrested on multiple charges after he barricaded himself inside the men’s bathroom in the Kohl’s department store.

Dwayne Jermaine Walker, 28, was arrested for Carjacking, Robbery, Battery, Violation Parole, Resisting Officer, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, a woman parked her car in the Kohl’s parking lot when Walker raced to the driver’s side door and attempted to start the vehicle. However, the key was in the woman’s purse.

“She was screaming for help and was in fear for her safety. She opened the driver side door and was screaming for him to get out of the vehicle,” the officer said.

Walker exited the vehicle and then tried taking the victim’s purse that was in the backseat of the vehicle.

“She was trying to pull him out of the vehicle and away from her purse/belongings,” police said.

Due to her screaming for help, she got the attention of several people who were in the West Melbourne parking lot.

Witnesses told police that a struggle ensued between the victim and Walker. He forcefully took her purse and shoved her down to the ground. Walker then dumped all the contents from her purse onto the ground.

Walker took something on the ground and attempted to start the vehicle. The victim went to the passenger seat and attempted to push Walker out of the vehicle.

Walker then fled back into Kohl’s and barricaded himself in a bathroom. Once the West Melbourne police gained entry, he then locked himself in a bathroom stall.

Another officer and a K-9 managed to apprehend Walker in the bathroom. He was taken into custody and booked into the Brevard County Jail.
