MELBOURNE, Florida – A 28-year-old man was arrested after he stole a 12-pack of Coca-Cola at Cumberland Farms in Melbourne.

Jon Abner Sanchez walked into the store, located at 2300 Minton Road, and walked out with the soda, according to the report.

As a Cumberland Farms employes tried to stop him, Sanchez ran to a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck waiting at the gas pump.

Sanchez then entered the vehicle and drove off, nearly striking the employee as he drove away, the report said.

“The employee/witness advised that he was in fear of the defendant running him over at the time the vehicle was driving towards him,” the officer said.

The employee got the tag number and called the Melbourne Police Department. A few minutes later, police spotted the vehicle nearby.

Police charged Sanchez with Petit Theft and Aggravated Assault W/Deadly Weapon for nearly striking the employee with the vehicle. The Brevard County Jail is holding Sanchez on a $10,500 bond.
