PALM BAY – A father hit his son twice in the face for having trouble with math homework, leaving him with lacerations to his lips and a bloody nose.

On Wednesday, January 30, 2019, the Palm Bay police department arrested Dexter J Francois, 36, for committing the offense of Child Abuse (Domestic Violence) without great harm by intentionally and willfully touching and striking his son in the face with an open palm.

Francois, of Palm Bay, hit his son twice, in the face, for having trouble with his math homework. This action caused the child to have lacerations to both his upper and lower lips and a nose bleed which lasted until the following morning, according to the affidavit.

During the interview with police, the injuries to the child’s lips were still noticeable. There was dried blood around his mouth and around the rim of his nostrils.

The striking of the child in the face causing these injuries goes above the State of Florida corporal punishment.

Dexter J Francois was charged with Child Abuse Without Great Bodily Harm-Simple Assault.

There was no bond set.
