WEST MELBOURNE – On Wednesday, January 16, 2019, the West Melbourne Police Department made a traffic stop on a UHAUL van with an Arizona tag after the driver failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign located at Gail Blvd and Thelma.
Jerome Trent Kenerly, of Melbourne, was identified as the driver of the UHAUL. The 35-year-old was only in possession of a learner’s permit; he advised he owed $1,200 before he could get his driver’s license.
Kenerly was removed from the vehicle and escorted to a patrol vehicle. A canine was walked around the vehicle and notified to conduct a search. During the search, a briefcase was found containing either pills or brown and white substances, small clear bags, a scale, ammo, and a firearm.
The pills were identified as Oxycodone, marijuana wax, and MDMA. The white powder substance located on the scene was also packaged and submitted into evidence to be sent for further evaluation.
Kenerly was arrested and charged with (2 Counts) Possession of a Firearm/Weapon/Ammo by Convicted Felon, and (3 Counts) Controlled Substance – Possession without a Prescription.
His bond was set at $17,000.
